At Holy Family Cathedral, we believe that faith formation is one of the most precious gifts we can offer our children. Rooted in the teachings of the Catholic Church, our Children's Faith Formation programs nurture young hearts and minds in the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ, helping our children grow as faithful members of the Church and active participants in the life of our parish community.
Whether through Sunday School, preparation for the Sacraments, or the religious education our children receive in our Catholic schools, our goal is the same: to walk with families as they raise children who know, love, and live their Catholic faith.
Faith formation at Holy Family Cathedral is guided by the teachings of the Catholic Church, drawing on Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and the rich tradition of the Church's liturgical and sacramental life. We work closely with parents — the first and primary teachers of the faith to their children — as well as with our Catholic schools, to ensure that what children learn in the classroom is reinforced and celebrated within the life of the parish.
Our Sunday School program offers children the opportunity to grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith in a warm, welcoming, and age-appropriate setting. Through Scripture, prayer, storytelling, and activities, children come to know the love of God and the teachings of the Church, building a strong foundation for a lifelong relationship with Christ.

The reception of First Holy Communion is one of the most significant milestones in a child's faith journey — their first time receiving the Body of Christ in the Eucharist. Our First Communion Preparation program guides children and their families through a structured formation process, helping children understand the meaning and importance of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Holy Eucharist, in accordance with the teaching and practice of the Catholic Church.Preparation typically includes:Formation sessions covering the meaning of the Mass and the EucharistPreparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession)Parent/guardian involvement and family formation sessionsA special First Communion Mass celebrating this milestone

For families whose children attend one of our Diocesan Catholic schools, Religious Education is taught as part of the regular school curriculum, ensuring that faith formation is woven into the everyday life and learning of our students. This classroom instruction complements — but does not replace — the sacramental and parish-based formation offered through Sunday School and Sacrament Preparation programs. We encourage all families, whether or not their children attend a Catholic school, to participate fully in the parish's faith formation offerings.
